Last Soldier Thomas N. Sedgwick
Private Thomas Sedgwick was the last living soldier of Delaware County, Iowa. He was buried in Hillside Cemetery in Whitewater, Wisconsin. He served in Company D, 36th Illinois Infantry from September, 1861 to September, 1864. Ron Rittel researched the last soldier in each of Iowa's Counties and discovered that he was buried in an unmarked grave. Working with the SUVCW, Department of Wisconsin, a Veterans headstone was placed to recognize Private Sedgwick. The cemetery location is Lot 2-164. Thanks to Ron and Marilyn Rittel for placing the marker in August, 2018 and providing photos.
