Medal of Honor Recipient Calvary M. Young
Sgt. Young (1840-1909) of the 3rd Iowa Cavalry was awarded the Medal of Honor for capturing Confederate General William Cabell at the large cavalry battle at Mine Creek, Kansas. This occurred on October 25, 1864. After the war he moved to Kentucky and worked as a bridge builder and carpenter along with raising a family of 8 children. He is buried in Highland Cemetery, an impressive and well maintained cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. The headstone is located on the east side of Section 12. Photos taken August 13, 2009.
