Medal of Honor Recipient William May
Private William May (1826-1894) of the 32nd Iowa Infantry was awarded the Medal of Honor for capturing the flag of the Louisiana Bouanchaud Battery at the Battle of Nashville on December 16, 1864. Private May served in the Mexican War and later farmed in Franklin County, Iowa both before and after the Civil War. He is buried in the Winsted, Minnesota Public Cemetery off Sixth Street N (the main N/S street through town). The headstone is located close to the northern edge of the cemetery.
