Medal of Honor Recipient Pvt. Pitt B. Herington
Pvt. Herington (1841-1919) served in the 11th Iowa Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery in going between battle lines to rescue a wounded comrade at Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia on June 15, 1864. He lived in Cedar County, Iowa before the war and farmed in Illinois after the war. He is buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Clinton, Illinois. The Cemetery is located on the north side of town, off business Highway 51. He is buried in Section B on the north side of the cemetery not too far from the office. Look for a taller gray stone. The first two photos were taken 10/1/10. The third photo shows a plaque dedicated to Pvt. Herington on 7/5/15 at Red Oak Grove Church and Cemetery near Tipton in Cedar County, Iowa.
